Kiir fires top police bosses

Author : | Published: Monday, January 11, 2016

Two top police generals have been fired by President Salva Kiir.

Inspector-General of Police General Pieng Deng Kuol and his deputy Andrew Kuol Nyuon were removed through a decree broadcast on the state-run SSTV on Saturday.

It’s unclear why the President fired the men.

The senior officers have been replaced with Makur Arol as new inspector general of police and Biel Ruot as his deputy.

According to the agreement on distribution of ministerial positions in the upcoming government of national unity, the ministry of interior falls under SPLM in Opposition.

Upon assuming office, the minister of interior in the interim government will suggest inspector general of police to the president.
