The Political Parties Alliance is urging the government to revoke the decision of the appointment of governors for the 28 states.

In October, President Salva Kiir issued a decree splitting the 10 states into 28. He appointed new governors the states on Thursday.

“In any case, this is a wrong decision coming at the wrong time and the people are very much disappointed,” said Dr Lam Akol, Chairperson of SPLM-DC.

“Instead of [government] working to consolidate peace, they are taking measures that can make the implementation of peace agreement difficult.”

On Friday, the Chairman of SPLM-IO, Dr. Riek Machar called on the International Community to condemn the appointment of the governors for 28 states.

He said the decision should have been tabled for discussion by the Join Monitoring and Evaluation Commission before its implementation.
