Kenyan President William Ruto said he has received a goodwill message from his counterpart, President Salva Kiir, through a delegation to Nairobi on the weekend.
In a Facebook post, Ruto said the stability of South Sudan is integral to the economic integration of East Africa.
The Kenyan president appeared in the post on his official page, greeting Presidential Affairs Minister Dr. Barnaba Marial and the Director-General of Internal Security Bureau Akol Koor Kuc.
Other officials present were Governor Louis Lobong Lojore of Eastern Equatoria State, the Special Presidential Envoy on Special Programs Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel among others.
“Kenya commits to elimination of all barriers to achieve social and economic growth in the region. At State House, I received a goodwill message from South Sudan President Salva Kiir delivered by Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin, who is also the Minister for Presidential Affairs,” Ruto said.
The visit to Kenya by the South Sudan government delegation comes a few days after a border tension resulted in ethnic clashes at the disputed Ilemi Triangle.
South Sudan reportedly accuses Kenya of illegally taking 42 points of its borderline at Nadapal area of Kapoeta East.
But Nairobi has denied the claims that it has encroached South Sudan’s territory arguing that it respects the boundaries of its neighbors.
