Kenyan comedian: Eric Omondi charged over illegal assembly

Kenyan Comedian Eric Omondi has been charged with taking part in an unlawful assembly after he allegedly joined a dozen others to protest cost of living on Tuesday.

Omondi was charged alongside 17 others and it was alleged that on February 21 at Parliament road they took part in an unlawful assembly.

According to The Star newspaper, they denied the charge and were released on a Sh20,000 bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh10,000.

Their lawyer Danstan Omari told the court that the young men represented 55 million Kenyans grappling with high cost of living and were at the parliament to tell MPs to do something on the issue.

“They went to parliament to get solution on the current high cost of living I urge court to take judicial notice that 6 million are at the verge of starving “ Omari said as reported by The Star.

“The state has criminalized this national heroes fighting for to them They are irritants to the government. Allow them to go home so that they can continue to entertain us on TV “ Omari said.

The case will be put on pretrial on March 6.
