Kajo-keji community calls for investigation into road killings

Author : | Published: Friday, October 14, 2016

The KajoKeji Community Organization has called for investigations into the killings of civilians along major highways into and out of Juba.

They describe the attacks as unacceptable crimes against humanity.

Over the last few weeks, many people have been killed on the roads linking Juba to Nimule, Yei, KajoKeji and Torit.

Last weekend, 21 passengers were killed in an attack along the Yei- Juba road.

In another incident, 12 people were killed and four others injured, including the commissioner of Lafon County, along the Torit – Lafon road in Imatong state.

The KajoKeji Community Organization says these attacks have made it difficult for civilians to move freely and have increased the suffering of women and children.

In a press statement signed by the chairman, Aggrey Tisa Sabuni, who is also the Presidential Advisor on Economic Affairs, the organization sent condolences to the communities from where the fallen victims come from.

It calls on the Transitional Government of National Unity to investigate these killings neutrally and as quickly as possible so that those who are responsible can be arrested and brought to the justice.

The organization urged the Transitional Legislature to use its political and moral authority to exert pressure on the TGONU to play an active role in criminal investigation of this carnage.

It also urges the government to promote a peaceful and just solution of South Sudanese question of insecurity once and for all.

The statement comes days after the Minister of Information warns communities to distance themselves from attacks on the highways.
