Students from Dr. John Garang and Upper Nile universities will now continue with their studies at the University of Juba and the University of Bahr El-Ghazal, authorities have said.

Dr. John Garang University in Jonglei State capital Bor, and Upper Nile University in Malakal, were closed down due to the on-going crisis.

The Deputy Minister of Education in the National government says they have assessed the damage caused in the two universities.

Bol Makueng told Eye Radio that the ministry has presented a request to the Council of Ministers to approve some money for the rehabilitation of the two universities that have been damaged.

“We will take the students who are now studying in those universities so that we integrate the colleges with similar studies until we put the universities in place, depending on the possibility of getting resources in the short while so that we can return the universities in their places,” said Mr Makueng.

“And we will also consider recruiting more lecturers so that there is no shortage of lectures.”

Mr. Makueng says students will resume their studies in the two universities once conditions in the two states improve.
