The Gynecology Department at Juba Teaching Hospital reported 20 new births during this year’s Christmas celebrations.

Lucky Gloria Ambrose, the Assistant Medical Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology, confirmed that 12 mothers had normal deliveries, while 8 underwent cesarean sections.

Dr Gloria also stated that one newborn girl sadly did not survive due to unspecified health complications.

“We had 12 normal deliveries, seven were girls and five were boys, and we had eight deliveries, six boys, and two girls by Cesarean but one of the girls did not make it to life,” Dr Gloria stated in an exclusive interview with Eye Radio.

The health official stated that the intermittent power outages at the public hospital harm operations, particularly when electricity goes off abruptly.

“Our challenge in the hospital here, most of the time is when the electricity goes off and then the life of the babies in the nursery becomes a challenge, especially those who are on oxygen,” she stated.

“If the electricity goes off, definitely you will lose hope for the good work you have done, meaning sometimes the repercussions will not be very good. But from yesterday to now, the electricity has not gone off. We thank God for that,” Dr Gloria said.
