Juba-Bor road reopened after clashes

The Juba-Bor road is now open, after its closure over the weekend, the Commissioner of Mongala County has said.

It was closed due to insecurity that followed a clash on Saturday between organized forces and armed men during the inauguration of the commissioner in Mongala town.

Authorities reported that two soldiers were killed and eight others injured in the incident. But eyewitnesses say about 7 people died in the incident.

Elario Paul said the state authorities have deployed forces to maintain security on the road to Bor.

“There are people who are monitoring the road, and ahead [on the way to Bor], it’s the responsibility of Jemeza commissioner and he is also monitoring the road there,” Mr Paul said.

It is not clear what led to the fighting, but officials said the shooting started from across the River. Other gunmen blocked the road to Jemeza on the road to Bor.
