The Principal of Media Development Institute in Juba has called for more women in the media industry in South Sudan, adding that Journalism is a profession for all, not only for men.

Aya Irene made the call on Wednesday in Juba November 16, 2022, during the graduation of 29 journalism students at MDI.

She who commended women participation of female journalists in the field pointed out that more women are coming up in journalism, compared to the past.

The head of AMDISS media training wing – MDI appreciated media houses who have given journalism students an opportunity to practice their learned skills.

“On this occasion the institute will graduate a total of 29 students, including 7 females, ” said Aya.

“I would like to thank the media houses which stood with MDI and offered spaces on their media houses and accepted to train our student whom we have deployed for internship, we thank you so much, Eye Radio and other media houses,

“We have so many women who are coming up in journalism, compared to the past,

“I want to encourage you the few, the seven who have succeeded and who are going to graduate today, please don’t go and put your certificate in the suitcases, put it in front of you and do something about it,

“Journalism is a profession for all, not only for men.”

For his part, the Chairperson of Association for Media Development in South Sudan, Koang Pal Chang urged graduates to practice responsible journalism.

“It’s your responsibility as a journalist to give the right information to the citizens so that they make the right decision to elect leaders of their choice, ” Pal said.

“Journalists should practice media ethics with much care as you also demand from public figures. Go out there and practice responsible journalism.”

The newly graduated students, under the Association for Media Development in South Sudan were awarded their one-year training certificate yesterday.

Eye Radio’s Patricia John was named as the best female student.

Media developing partners in South Sudan who attended the graduation of journalism students at MDI promised to continue supporting media development, especially the Media Development Institute in South Sudan.

They include Norwegian Church Aid, Norwegian People Aid, UNESCO, USAID, EU, US embassy, JICA, among others.
