Jonglei condemns attack on road construction workers

The government of Jonglei State has condemned an attack on workers of the Africa Resource Corporation along Gatdiang-Akobo road by armed men suspected to have come from the neighboring Pibor.

The state Information Minister, John Samuel Manyuon said the attack occurred on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

Minister Manyuon said no casualties were reported, but that the attackers burnt down two new Bulldozers machines that were clearing the Gatdiang-Akobo road.

“The government of Jonglei State condemns in the strongest term, the attack on ARC and the burning of the Construction equipment by these armed Murle elements who are being instigated by anti-peace and anti-development agents,” Manyuon said.

The official is calling on the national government to deploy security forces to protect the road workers, construction equipment, passengers and their properties along the road.

He added that reinforcing security along the various road work sites will ensure the safety of workers to fasten the road construction.”

“We call for the support of the National government to deploy security forces to protect the road workers, Construction equipment, Passengers and their properties moving along these roads.”

Several calls to the Chief of Greater Pibor Administrative Area Lokali Ame Bullen went un answered..
