JICA pledges to build CES govt officials’ capacity

The Japanese International Cooperation Agency has pledged to build the capacity of local government officials in Central Equatoria State.

This is according to Tanaka Hiroyuki, JICA’s Chief Representative in South Sudan.

Tanaka revealed that JICA and the governor of Central Equatoria state, Emmanuel Adil discussed the project Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

“We start a new project of capacity development of local governors. So, one of the modern states is Central Equatoria state, we discussed our cooperation with the governor and we have a kick-off meeting to start our new project,” Hiroyuki told the media after meeting Governor Adil in Juba.

For his part, Governor Emmanuel Adil appreciated JICA for its outstanding contribution to the people of Central Equatoria State in particular, and South Sudan.

According to the project layout, the target State Ministries include Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies, Peace Building, Finance, Cooperatives, and Rural Development.

The program is to enable senior local government officials to learn from the experience of Japan’s post-war and post-disaster reconstruction and the roles played by local government in reconstruction.

JICA is supporting the local government sector in South Sudan.
