James Wani Igga, Vice President

Vice President James Wani has warned officials who could be working against the peace agreement to protect their political positions, to leave the country.

Under the agreement, Mr Wani will become the Second Vice President after Dr Riek Machar.

Mr Wani has welcomed the advance team of the SPLM in Opposition, which is expected to arrive in Juba next week.

He appealed to the SPLM in Opposition to have no doubt about their personal security when they arrive in Juba.

“[Don’t] begin to put ‘what about my security’ first. The agreement is your security,” Mr Wani told a forum on education sector review in Juba on Tuesday.

“Over 99% of people want peace. So if you have your own personal interest that makes you unwilling to accept peace, you better go to another country.

“It’s a problem of greed. Some says ‘oh what is going to happen to my seat if we are many’. You have to struggle.”

The Vice President says the peace agreement would lead to development.

He says the government’s priority after the signing of the deal is to restore security and improve the availability of food.

“This random shooting, these uncalled for killings and robberies will stop and must be stop,” he added.

The government says it is yet to receive the list and the exact date for the arrival of the delegation of the SPLM in Opposition.
