South Sudan Vice President James Wani Igga has arrived in New York.

The vice president was delegated by President Salva Kiir to represent him at the upcoming UN General Assembly.

He’s accompanied by His wife Madam Mary Nura Wani Igga and senior government officials, including Barnaba Marial, foreign affairs minister, Awan Guol Riak, minister in the office of the President, David Deng Athorbei, minister of Finance and Economic Planning, and amongst others.

The delegation was received at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City on Wednesday by Garang Diing Akuong, head of South Sudan mission to the US and Dr. Francis Mading Deng, South Sudan ambassador to the UN, and other diplomats.

Among other issues, the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly will discuss global peace and security, and budgets.

Mr Igga is expected to deliver a speech on Saturday, September 26, according to a statement from his office.

The UN assembly brings together heads of state and governments from around the world.

President Kiir could not attend because, the government says, the invitation was given to him on short notice.
