An IGAD monitor has died of heart attack after they were detained by the Opposition forces in Unity State yesterday.

The monitors were detained near Bentiu while on a routine monitoring mission.

“Forces of the SPLM/SPLA in Opposition apprehended these people in which one of those in that mission died because of heart attack,” said Ambassador Mesfin, the chairman of the IGAD envoys at the peace talks.

“We have condemned this act. It is in violation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement and they will bear the consequences.”

The spokesperson of the SPLM in Opposition, Mabior Garang, told Eye Radio that the helicopter carrying the IGAD monitors had no clearance to land in the area.

Mr. Mabior said the IGAD monitors have now been released.
