IGAD heads of State have concluded a mini summit in Juba this afternoon.

The meeting was attended by the Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, and the Prime Minister of Uganda, Ruhakana Rugunda, who represented President Yoweri Museveni.

The IGAD Chief Mediator for the South Sudan Peace Process, Ambassador Seyoum Mesfin, says the mini summit discussed few key outstanding issues between the Government and the SPLM-SPLA in Opposition.

But he did not mention what are these outstanding issues.

“‘The Bahir Dar session identified few key outstanding issues to be discussed at the Heads of State and Government level before the mini-summit consultations which have been held with Dr. Riek Machar, the leader of the SPLM-PLA In Opposition to understand the key concerns of the Opposition in relation to the outcomes of the Bahir Dar session.” Ambassador Seyoum said while addressing the media at the end of the summit at J-1 .

“At the Juba consultations, a breakthrough has been achieved on the outstanding issues to be finalized at the next IGAD summit to be convened next week in Addis Ababa.” He further said.

The three leaders met with President Salva Kiir and discussed the framework agreement reached by the SPLM factions in Arusha, Tanzania this week.
