The extra-ordinary summit of the IGAD heads of state will take place next week in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs has said.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom who was in the country yesterday says he came to Juba to meet President Salva Kiir and discuss with him some issues including preparations for the up-coming summit.

In an official statement, Dr. Adhanom says President Kiir has expressed willingness to resolve the on-going crisis peacefully.

He also says President Kiir will attend the IGAD Summit, which is scheduled to take place on the 18th of this month.

“We had a fruitful discussion with his Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit; we had two issues to discuss, one is on the upcoming IGAD summit in Adds Ababa in January 18th. He will be attending that,” said Dr Adhanom.

“He retreated his readiness to resolve the crisis peacefully and this has been his position ever since.”

Last month the IGAD mediators for South Sudan peace process adjourned the peace talks to enable the delegates celebrate Christmas with their families.

The talks are expected to resume this month.
