IDPs support 17 August deadline

Author : | Published: Friday, August 14, 2015

Internally displaced persons demonstrated at the UN camp in Juba earlier today, demanding that the warring parties sign a peace agreement.

Thousands of the IDPs marched inside the camp in Jebel Kujur and handed over a petition to Relief and Rehabilitation Office of UNMISS.

They called upon the international community to punish those who obstruct the peace process.

One of the demonstrators, Jel Jok, says the international community should ensure that peace quickly returns to South Sudan.

“We need any action taken against anyone who is not willing to accept peace on 17 August,” Mr Jok said.

President Salva Kiir and SPLM- in Opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar are expected to discuss on outstanding issues this weekend.

These include power sharing at national level and in the Upper Nile region, the demilitarization of Juba, the scope of a ceasefire and the system of governance during the transitional period.
