IDPs protest against ‘unfair distribution’ of non-food item in Yambio

Internally displaced people in Western Equatoria State are protesting in Yambio town against what they consider unfair distribution of non-food items.

They complained earlier that local people in Yambio were benefiting from the items meant for the IDPs.These include soaps, basins and water guards.

Today, they made similar accusations at the office of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in the town.

“They are rioting at the office of the county coordinator for refugees. They are now saying that the registration process was not done well,” reported Paul Night, Eye Radio Stringer.

“Other IDPs say the officials are selecting those they know to go and receive the items.”

Hundreds of families fled the conflict between cattle keepers and a communal vigilante group in Maridi and sought safety in the state capital.

Officials attribute the violence that erupted in May to killing of a senior county official by unidentified men.  Majority of IDPs in Yambio are women and children.
