A new IDP site has opened in Malakal.
It has been built because the existing site is too crowded. There are more than 20,000 internally displaced people from the town.
The new UN camp has an area of 10,000 square meters. It can accommodate between eight to nine thousand I-D-P-s.
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in South Sudan opened the new camp.
Ms Hilde Johnson urged the I-D-Ps to keep peace and stability in the new protection of civilians’ site.
“We want Salam (peace) in the camp, Salam in the camp, but what really will help all of us and all of you is to keep Salam in the camp,” she said.
Madam Johnson says the new mandate from the UN Security Council, makes protection of civilians the number one priority.
