The International Committee of the Red Cross says it will continue to support the vulnerable groups in Jonglei State through this year.

Yesterday, the South Sudan Red Cross and the ICRC celebrated the world volunteers’ days in Bor town.

ICRC head of sub-delegation in Jonglei State, Joris Pieter Paululs, who spoke during the occasion, said his organization will continue to work together with the South Sudan Red Cross to help the needy.

“[In Bor]….we have put in place a border treatments in cooperation with local authorities and we have been providing clean water to 60%… maybe even 70% in the town of Bor.”

The director of South Sudan Red Cross in Bor, David Gai Deer, says they are committed as volunteers to help the most vulnerable groups in Jonglei State.

“We are also championing to make sure that our communities remain capable and resilient, and this is a very important step because the communities that depend always on relief, that communities remain vulnerable forever and that is why we are championing seriously to make sure that our communities remain resilient in most of the capacities and able to have enough food through agriculture,” he said.

Jonglei is one the states that have been affected by the on-going conflict. Thousands of civilians who had fled to the neighboring Awerial County are now trickling back to Bor.
