JUBA, South Sudan (Eye Radio) His Eminence, Cardinal Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla, Archbishop of Juba, has joined the nation in mourning the passing of veteran journalist Emmanuel Joseph Akile.

In a message of solace delivered on his behalf by Auxiliary Bishop Santo Loku during the Requiem Mass on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at St. Theresa’s Cathedral in Kator, the Cardinal extended his deepest prayers to the media fraternity and the bereaved family.

In his tribute, the Cardinal stated, “It was with a heavy heart that I received the news that a champion of the airwaves, the voice of The Dawn Show, has fallen. In this time of profound grief, I offer my deepest condolences for the loss of such a prominent and talented journalist. Though you have closed one year and opened the next in tears, I pray that you find strength in the Lord. Let the passing of Emmanuel be viewed not merely as a loss, but as a sacred transition into the hands of the Creator.

As the Scripture reminds us: ‘The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.’ May the Almighty grant you peace during this period of mourning, and may the soul of Emmanuel Joseph Akile rest in eternal glory.”

His Eminence concluded by praying that the Lord provides comfort to all colleagues and friends as they navigate this difficult time, honoring a man who dedicated his life to serving his country through the airwaves.

Emmanuel Akile passed away on December 30, 2025, following a brief illness and complications from a medical operation. A devoted Catholic throughout his life, Akile was laid to rest on Saturday at his mother’s residence in Gurei, Juba, surrounded by family, colleagues, and the listeners he served for over a decade.
