Higher Education Ministry reguests endorsement of new polytechnics

South Sudan’s Higher Education Minister Gabriel Changson Chang has requested members of the national council for the institution to approve four new technical institutes in the country.

The proposed technical Polytechnic colleges are planned to be in Yambio, Aweil, Bentiu, and Torit.

According to Gabriel Changson Chang, the colleges will transform technical vocational education training and promote local industries in the country.

“The Ministry has embarked on the establishment of four polytechnic colleges as part of transforming technical vocational education training in the country.

“The polytechnics are Yambio Polytechnic for Agricultural Sciences, Aweil Polytechnic for Health Sciences, Bentiu Polyethnic for Gas and Petroleum, and Torit Polytechnic for Engineering Sciences.

The Higher Education Minister said the endorsement once approved by the August council, will be presented to the Chancellor who is President Salva Kiir for assent.

“We want to encourage technical education which will be the basis for our local industries,” he added.

Minister Changson went on to say the Ministry is developing policy on national qualification framework, quality assurance, and regulations governing the online and distance learning programs as part of reforming the higher education sector.
