High Court finds Ugandan woman guilty of smuggling cocaine

The High Court at Kator in Juba County on Wednesday found a 28-year-old Ugandan woman guilty of unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs.

Josephine Mbabazi was caught hiding the 700 grams of cocaine in her pants and bra when was arrested at Juba airport by the Anti-drug criminal department in August last year.

She was en route to Brazil via Ethiopia with the drugs.

Yesterday, the presiding court Judge, Mujahid Abdullah says Mbabazi violated section 385 of the South Sudan Penal Act 2008 which is punishable by death or life imprisonment.

In other circumstances, a convict is sentenced to 14 years in jail or fined or both.

Mbabazi stands a final verdict on April 13, 2023.
