Health-worker shot dead in Lafon County

The Police in Lafon County in Eastern Equatoria State arrested a 40-year-old man on Thursday for having allegedly shot dead a health worker.

Lafon Commissioner Okach Mangisto Agueri said the incident happened in the Lopit West Payam on March 30, 2023.

The deceased has been identified as Abel Aleer – a doctor working at the government-run Haba health facility.

Commissioner Mangisto revealed that the suspect – Jackson Awor, worked as a clinical officer in the same hospital with the victim.

“The brief information shows that both of them worked in the same health facility. The deceased is Abel Aleer 42 years old works with the government as in charge of the Haba health facility.”

The two men reportedly picked a quarrel over an unclear issue and engaged in a fistfight.

According to the commissioner, the victim first overpowered the suspect, who then became annoyed, run to his house to grab a gun, returned and killed him.

“The cause of the death is not yet known, but according to the primary information, these two men got into quarrel and fought, where one was overpowering the other, then he runs to his home and picked a gun and shot the deceased.”
