Haysom applauds South Sudan’s generosity towards refugees

The head of the United Nations mission in South Sudan has applauded the country for adopting what he calls a generous policy for refugees fleeing the conflict in Sudan.

Nicholas Hysom made the remarks alongside the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Abino Atak after meeting President Slava Kiir yesterday in Juba.

“I  pay special credit to South Sudan for adopting a generous policy to the refugees to accept all those who crossed the border which most countries have not done to facilitate and support refugees,” he said.

Hysom said the action taken by South Sudan is symbolic to the neighboring countries.

For his part, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs said, the government and UN agencies have created reception centers at the entry border points to provide shelter and relief assistance to riving returnees and refugees.

Thousands of refugees and returnees are stranded in the South Sudan- Sudan border with the majority entering the country through Renk in Upper Nile State.
