The administration of Pageri Payam in Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State has appealed to the government to relocate cattle keepers who are grazing their cattle in the area.

Payam administrator, Emilio Igga, says the cattle are destroying their farmlands as the rainy season approaches.

He says the cattle keepers came from Western Equatoria State and should go straight to their homelands in Jonglei.

“Livestock cannot go together with farming community. They have the animals. That is their wealth. That is their riches. That is what they sustain their livelihood but they must keep it out of farming areas,” Mr Igga said.

“It is time that the government takes lead to relocate these people off and how to manage their livestock.”

Mr Emilio says there are more than 10,000 cattle keepers in the area, including children and the elderly.
