Gov’t urged to help IDPs return home

Author : | Published: Friday, May 6, 2016

The Committee for National Healing, Peace and Reconciliation says the government should help people displaced by the conflict to return to their homes.

The UN says some 1.6 million people have been internally displaced, and at least 600,000 have become refugees in the neighboring countries.

The committee says the government should provide enough security to encourage the people to return to their homes.

In a statement, the committee urges the leaders to first consider the suffering of the people, especially those displaced and taking refuge in the neighboring countries.

It says the formation of the transitional government should mark the end of violence and the beginning of confidence building among the people who have been living in fear and trauma.

The committee also appeals to the government to prioritize the process of national healing, peace and reconciliation to quickly bring together the divided grassroots.
