Gov’t to review LC procedures

Author : | Published: Thursday, May 7, 2015

The government has agreed to review the procedures of issuing Letters of Credit to businesspeople.

This decision was made at a two-day conference after consulting economic experts.

Letters of Credit are offered to traders to enable them get hard currency to import goods to the country.

The Minister of Finance and Economic planning, Deng Arthorbei says the review is in an effort to reduce the rising prices of commodities in the market.

“People have agreed that the LC did not…seem to have delivered what they were intended for,” Mr Athorbei said.

“Therefore, people will have to find another way of trying to lower the prices in the markets.”

The consultative conference was attended by economic experts from Uganda and the University of Juba.
