SPLM has named nominees to be appointed ministers in the Transitional Government of National Unity, a senior party official has told Eye Radio.

Daniel Awet Akot, who is a member of the SPLM Political Bureau, says they are awaiting Dr Riek Machar to return to Juba for the formation of the unity government.

President Salva Kiir appointed Dr Riek Machar as first Vice President last week. He gave Dr Machar a week to report to the capital.

However, Dr Machar said he will return to Juba if adequate security arrangements are made in line with the capital’s demilitarization provided for in the peace agreement.

Daniel Awet Akot says the names have been sent to the president.

“All the names of the government [nominees] are ready. We’re just waiting for the first Vice President to come and swear,” Mr Akot said.

But he declined to reveal the names. According to the peace deal, the government will take up 16 ministerial positions in the interim government.

The SPLM In opposition is yet to provide a list of nominated ministers for the transitional government of national unity.

The other signatory to the August 2015 peace deal, the Former Detainees, have already submitted names of their nominees.
