The Council of Ministers has cancelled the general elections that were scheduled for June 30th and extended President Salva Kiir’s term for two years.

The council says they will hold elections after peace is achieved.

In their regular meeting last week, Members of Parliament argued that the polls cannot be conducted with out a permanent constitution.

The Leader of the Minority in National Assembly, Onyoti Adigo says elections cannot be held when the country is unstable.

“One, there is no peace completely. Secondly, we have the finance; after the close down of oil of Bentiu, we have run short of money in the country and a lot of challenges actually. Also the place for the elections was not according to our laws.” He said.

Mid last week, eighteen political parties had filed an appeal to the High Court against the National Elections Commission to postpone the general polls.
