Gov’t meets disowned advance team

The Minister of Information, Michael Makuei Lueth says the government is holding talks in Juba with officials from a splinter group of the SPLM in Opposition.

The Federal Democratic Party is led by the former Minister of Culture and Sports, Gabriel Changson Chang, and its military wing is led by General Peter Gadet.

17 officials from the group arrived in Juba last week to discuss with the government how the group can be included in the power sharing deal.

They were led by Mr. Gabriel Yol Dok.

However, their leader, Gabriel Changson, said in a statement last week that they have disowned the officials, saying they came without his approval.

The government spokesperson, Michael Makuei confirmed the government is talking with the officials, but declined to reveal what is being discussed.

“Yes. Talks are going on but there is nothing we can share about these talks now,” Mr Makuei said.

Mr Gabriel Changson said his group in Nairobi is ready to negotiate with the government a power sharing deal.
