The Ministry of General Education and Instruction has announced more than 1,500 scholarships for primary school teachers across the country.
Funded by the World Bank, the program will train 1,550 pre-service teachers and 10,450 in-service teachers under the project “Building Skills for Human Capital Development in South Sudan.”
Speaking to the media during the launch of the scholarship program, on Thursday, Minister Kuyok Abol Kuyok said the application process officially began on 11th December 2025.
He said successful candidates will be enrolled in six Teacher Training Institutes.
Kuyok said the initiative aims to build a competent and well-trained teaching workforce to support national human capital development.
“The nationwide recruitment is part of the ministry’s commitment to building a competent, well-trained teaching workforce and advancing national human capital development.
“It also aligns with the General Education Sector Plan 2023-2027, which prioritizes improving access and equity, fostering inclusive learning environment for vulnerable groups, promoting gender equality and raising learning outcomes for all learners,” he said.
The minister said applicants must be South Sudanese nationals or registered refugees living in the country.
They must also provide a signed letter committing to serve as primary school teachers for at least five years after graduation.
“So who is eligible to apply? You have to be a South Sudanese national. Number two, if you are a refugee, you have to be a registered refugee residing in South Sudan. Entry requirements, applicants must hold a pass certificate from South Sudan Secondary School Examination or its equivalent in science or arts. Refugee applicants must present an equivalent of recognized qualifications. You have to possess a birth certificate or an age assessment certificate or a refugee registration certificate,” he said.
According to the ministry, 35% of the scholarships have been reserved for female student-teachers.
