The Chief of Defense force has instructed security personnel assigned to provide security during Pope Francis visit, to carry out their duties with much diligence.

While addressing the security forces at Tiger Division in Juba on Monday, Gen. Santino Deng Wol said the assigned soldiers will be deployed in all corners of the capital.

“The security matter is your responsibility, during the visit of the Pope we need to see our soldiers, SSPDF members, Police, or national security personnel in every corner of Juba,” said the army chief.

The Inspector General of Police, Majak Akech says the forces must pay attention to law-breakers who could disrupt public order.

“We have some people who don’t like good things to come here in South Sudan, they can be among us here or they are coming from far, these are the people we are against them,” he said.

General Majak said the security forces will look out for robbers, bandits and drunkards.

Meanwhile, the Assistant IGP said all the above orders can be easily carried out by the security personnel if they adhere to military regulations.

“Being a soldier is about two things, Discipline   and implementing the orders, these are the only two things, if you understand the military rule there is nothing hard for you to implement,”

Pope Francis and his accompanying delegation will arrive in South Sudan’s capital Juba this Friday and spend two days.

During their stay, they will meet with internally displaced persons, top government officials, and their church congregations in Juba.

The visit is also expected to be attended by the regional leaders, including President Yoweri Museveni of Ugandan, Kenya’s President William Ruto, and Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
