Western Equatoria State authorities have confirmed the deployment of security forces in Tambura, clarifying that the ongoing conflict is not driven by tribal tensions, as previously reported, but by individuals within the organized forces.

After remaining silent on state affairs for six months, Governor Alfred Futuyo announced that additional security forces would be deployed to track down the perpetrators, who he believes are hiding within military barracks.

The governor assured the people of Western Equatoria that security would be restored before the festive season, emphasizing the government’s commitment to resolving the crisis.

“Yesterday, we took a force there, even today I will be sending another force to see what are those killing people. People can be killed while there are soldiers there,” Governor Futuyo stated.

“If we search for people to be arrested, they will be from the same barracks. The mission will succeed, and the truth will be out in two or three days,” he said.

“Other people will not talk or deny in the next two to three days. The force that will be going has no friends, no brother, no sister and even no father because people are tired.”

For his part, the army spokesperson Maj Gen Lul Ruai Koang confirmed the deployment of a battalion to Tambura County.

He stated during a briefing with the joint security forces responsible for ensuring a peaceful festive season in Juba, that the move aims to restore law and order in the region amid escalating violence.

The deployment comes as part of broader efforts to ensure security in both Juba and Western Equatoria during the holiday period.

“In response to the rising insecurity in Tumbura County of Western Equatorial State, SSPDF has responded by deploying a battalion-sized force in the area to restore law and order,” Maj Gen Lul stated.
