The government has assured the public that it is pursuing diplomacy to resolve the border issue with neighboring Kenya.

In the past two weeks, tension involving Toposa and Turkana communities from South Sudan and Kenya led to violent clashes.

However, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation, Mayik Ayii Deng said on Wednesday that the government is aware of the sensitivities at the border with Kenya.

Minister Mayik said he met with the Kenyan Ambassador to South Sudan last week, to discuss areas of mutual concern.

“Issues concerning our mutual border were raised,” reads a statementfrom the Foreign Ministry.

“The Minister on behalf of the government of South Sudan would like to assure all South Sudanese citizens that the highest levels of government are aware of the sensitivities at the border and are working in cooperation with our neighbours to ensure, peace, prosperity and the maintenance of border integrity.”

Local and state officials in Eastern Equatoria said in several interviews with Eye Radio, that a convoy of Kenyan troops was spotted briefly on South Sudan territory.

This resulted in demonstrations by Taposa youth, calling on the national government to engage the Kenyan government on resolving the issue.
