Global Fund has pledged to give 135 million U.S dollars to support the fight against HIV and AIDS in South Sudan.

The National AIDS Commission has presented a document to the aid agency showing how the funds would be used.

Once the fund is received, their priority will be prevention of further spread of H-I-V virus in the communities, Dr. Esterina Novello Nyilok, Chairperson of the Commission, told Eye Radio.

“We need to involve people at the grass root for fighting the stigma through women groups, youth groups and community leaders,” she said.

150,000 people are living with HIV in South Sudan, according to the United Nations AIDS 2013 estimates.

The prevalence of the disease has been attributed to ignorance and lack of awareness in the country.
