At least four people were killed and three others injured in four different attacks in the remoter parts of the state this week, an official said.

Mohamed Chuol Peter, the Director-General of the Ministry of Information said the first incident occurred in Nyirol County on Monday April 3, 2o23 – where one person was killed, and 200 heads of cattle were raided.

Mr. Chuol said the victim in the Nyirol attack is a girl of 3 years who was abducted and later found dead.

He also said that on Wednesday April 5, 2023, a group of people traveling from Chuil Payam to Lankien, the headquarters of Nyirol County, was also attacked in the morning – leaving two men dead and a girl abducted.

The official further said a convoy of unnamed UN agency coming from Gadiang to Bor town reportedly fall into an ambush at 2 PM on Thursday leaving 3 people injured.

The attack also resulted in the abduction of an unspecified number of children who were later recovered.

Speaking to Eye Radio on Friday, Chuol said the three wounded survivors are currently receiving treatment at Bor State Hospital.

“This week we have one person killed from Pamai Boma in Padiet Payam and those two people from Nyirol County which means the people killed this week are four,” he said.

“The injured they are three they are now in Bor Hospital here in Bor town the inured of yesterday’s attack.”

Chuol went on to advise those responsible for the attacks on civilians and humanitarian convoys to refrain from the act – saying it is a threat to the lives of vulnerable communities in need of assistance.

The perpetrators of the attack have not been identified, but the eastern part of Jonglei State has seen heightened insecurities characterized by cattle raiding and road ambushes especially in the dreaded Gadiang-Bor highway.
