Foreign-Exchange dealers to be licensed

The Central Bank Governor says the bank will issue licenses to dealers in hard currency to resolve the sale of the US dollars in the black market.

Kornellio Koryom says the licenses are part of a system to streamline the exchange of foreign currencies.

“There must be a system, and by a system and order, we mean that anyone buying dollars must be given receipts. Anybody who is selling dollars must carry official receipt of the Central Bank to know that you are a dealer. And you have to have a license to operate as a dealer. If you are not having this, you will not qualify to be dealing in foreign currency.” The Central bank Governor said.

Traders have been complaining of lack of access to the US dollars they need to import goods from neighboring countries.

Koriom however described the economy as stable.
