The SPLM Former Detainees have proposed that IGAD convene an urgent roundtable meeting of all stakeholders to address the current security situation in the country.

The Former Detainees say the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission should initiate dialogue and open communications between various South Sudanese groups to salvage the peace agreement.

In a statement, the FDs say the roundtable discussions should aim at arresting any further deterioration of security by agreeing on measures that need to be taken to calm tensions quickly.

They suggest that such discussions should include restoring the implementation of all provisions of the peace agreement, or working out a new agreement in the event peace agreement is proved to be beyond salvation.

The statement says also urged the IGAD, the Region, AU and UN to move expeditiously with the deployment of the Regional Protection Force.

The Former Detainees say killing of civilians in towns, in villages, on the roads or highways, and arbitrary arrests of people, have increased.

They appealed to leaders of South Sudan at various levels and especially leaders of the warring parties and those who are carrying arms to exercise restraint and reign in their emotions.

They further urge them to avoid taking abrupt actions or decisions that will worsen the current situation.
