Ezo police arrest man who allegedly murdered wife

Police in Ezo County of Western Equatoria State on Saturday arrested the man who allegedly killed his breastfeeding wife by hitting her with a wooden mortar.

The suspect has been identified as Mathew Simon, aged 48 years. He reportedly committed the crime on Monday May 29, in Ma-nzi-nzi area.

Local authorities reported that Simon killed his wife Celina Dedimo, 34, by hitting her with a wooden mortar on the head.

Ezo Commissioner Abel Sudani said they arrested the man on June 1 after he was found hiding in the family residence.

“This man, after killing his wife on Monday, May 29, fled and hid with his family. However, the authorities managed to arrest him last Thursday,” the commissioner said.

Sudani Commissioner said the man had suspected his wife of being in a secret love affair with another man.

“During the investigations, they asked her about the reason for killing his wife. He said he was suspicious because there is a lover for his wife. So, he got up and went to his family’s house to his wife to confirm his doubts, when he arrived at his in-law’s home, he did not find his wife.”

Commissioner Sudani further narrates that “after a few minutes, she entered the house, and she and the 1 person who suspected that she was with him, and his name was Justin, according to his words.”

“A dispute arose according to allegations, and the other man beat him, and he tried to defend himself by hitting the man, but he mistakenly hit his wife.”

The official said the alleged lover has been arrested as well and is being investigated.
