Ezo man, 40, dies in bicycles accident

A man in his mid-40s reportedly died in a bicycles collision with a 17-year-old girl on Monday, December 19, in Ezo County of Western Equatoria State.

The fatal crash occurred in afternoon hours at Rafa locality – a kilometer away from the Ezo – Nabiapai road.

Local authorities in the area said the deceased, identified as Dominic Meme smashed his bicycle against that of a 17-year-old girl, after both of them attempted to turn on the same direction.

Ezo County Commissioner Abel Sudani said the teenager was riding to the market to have her Christmas clothes sewn, while the victim was also on his bicycle going to the opposite direction.

“The girl Ngbarago was trying to branch to a certain home to go and drink water because she was thirsty, the deceased was riding on high-speed and was also trying to branch to the same house immediately they collided,” said Commissioner Sudani.

The official told Eye Radio that the deceased pass on shortly after the accident.

“They had accident and both of them fall down after falling dawn, the deceased managed to sit and say he is okay. After telling them that he is ok, immediately he lay down and pass away.”

Bicycles are the main means of transport in Western Equatoria with majority of locals use for short and long distance travels.

Others use bicycles to transport their farm produces, take the sick to the hospital and also access other basic needs in the market.

“We are engaging the relatives to be calm so that they may not take the law into their hands so that we the county authority investigate what happened and also support them ideally about how we can bring this issue to an end peacefully” the commissioner added.
