The European Union has launched a 4.8 million Euros project for payroll and public financial management in Eastern Equatoria State.

The project aims at improving payroll and public financial management as a means of decentralizing state government policy to the counties.

Elvis Walemba is an official with the EU. He says the project will provide technical advisory in public financial management.

“The purpose of the project is to see that we can provide technical advisory in public financial management that is in budgeting, in planning, in accountability. Then the other aspect is looking at how we can support the pay roll systems.” He said.

“We are moving from the South Sudan electronic payroll version one into South Sudan electronic payroll versions two of six two.” Walemba added.

He said other areas they will be looking at supporting the county transfer monitory committee.

“The project is looking at supporting the county government particularly as we have seen from very long time support has been at a state level.” Walemba said.

He said the project is being implemented by the EU Technical Advisory to Public Financial Management and Payroll.

Similar projects are being held in other seven states of South Sudan with exception of the three states that have been affected by the conflict.
