Epilepsy

An increase in the number of people affected by epilepsy-like symptoms has been reported in Raja County of Western Bahr el Ghazal Sate, says the commissioner.

Commissioner Hassan Jalab said that the increased cases are alarming and he is concerned about a lack of medical facilities in the area.

“It started affecting other communities and it’s starting to spread every day,” said Mr. Hassan. “It’s affecting everybody here in Raja County, and it’s really disturbing.”

“This will need experts in the field of sciences to come and do some studies.”

Mr. Hassan also said that most of the affected are children between five to ten years.

Epilepsy is caused by abnormal excessive neuron activity in the brain.

It’s characterized by loss of consciousness and convulsions.
