The election for the presidency of the South Sudan Bar Association has been postponed, the high election committee has said.

The election had been slated for today, but the committee says it will now be suspended until a court rules on a petition by two lawyers of the association.

The spokesperson of the committee, Peter Matyas, says two lawyers challenged the legality of the election committee and the steering committee.

“The Court of Appeal in Greater Equatoria issued a decision to temporarily halt the election pending determination of the application and there will be siting for response from high Election committee and the steering committee of the Bar Association to answer,” Mr. Matyas told Eye Radio.

He says the appeal was filed by the lawyers, Dr. William Othwon and Mr. Leek Lual.

Two candidates Mr. Yohanes Yor Akol Ajwin and Mr. Kamaruddin Mohamed Hassan Wani are competing for the presidency of South Sudan Bar Association.
