Authorities in Duk County of Jonglei State say over 2,000 Internally Displaced Persons who arrived in the area over the past two weeks, are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
The County Commissioner, Jacob Akech, says the IDPs received their latest food ration from the World Food Program in August last year.
He says they were not able to cultivate because of insecurity in the area. He says they now rely on vegetables and wild fruits in the bush.
“The situation is very hard; children have no food, its cold in Duk at this time. There is no medicine,” said Mr Akech.
“So, I am really appealing to the government and the humanitarian agencies to assist people in Duk County.”
Mr. Akech urged the government and humanitarian agencies to provide food, shelters, medicine and security to the I-D-P-s especially the most venerable group.
He also urged the government and the SPLM-SPLA In Opposition to end the conflict in order to end the suffering of their citizens whom he says they are victims of the on-going crisis.
