The South Sudan Council of Churches is calling on the peace parties and military leaders to cease counter accusations and dialogue to resolve their differences.

The call comes a day after SPLM/A-IO announced that they will no longer participate in the peace monitoring body R-JMEC and the security mechanisms.

In a two-page letter addressed to the Interim Chair of R-JMEC, the group accused the SSPDF of carrying what it calls unprovoked attacks on its military bases, an allegation SSPDF denied.

Fr. James Oyet is the Secretary General of South Sudan Council of Churches.

He appealed to the parties to desist from bickering and initiate dialogue.

“We don’t need to accuse each other. Yes if I am not happy with you, I call you [to] come…. I am not happy with you on this instead of keeping silent and accusing you that you are doing this to me”, Father Oyet spoke to Eye Radio in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.

“You have been working together, SPLA IO and SSPDF, you have been working together for the last three years together I believe you can sort this issue out”, he stressed.

Fr. Oyet describes the latest development as an unfortunate.

“The situation is unfortunate. South Sudan need services, South Sudan need your contribution in the implementation of the peace. Do it for the people of South Sudan not yourself.”
