Talented Afrobeats singer DJ Cent on Sunday claims he would have long been awarded a V8 land-cruiser or a house if his country people are not supporting musicians on a tribal basis.

Speaking on Eye Radio’s Top 10 weekend music show, Cent argues that many South Sudanese support musicians because they come from the same ethnicity or tribe.

The Kalam Gurush hit-maker appealed to music fans in the country to stop encouraging the vice for the sake of national unity and the success of the music industry.

Cent bragged that his unifying songs often dominate the airwaves during South Sudan’s lowest moments – while his songs about social issues are some of the most preferred.

“When we were in crisis in 2016, my songs were the ones being played on BBC whenever BBC wants to talk about the South Sudan conflict they play my song God Bless South Sudan,” he said.

“So if I was to be appreciated I was going to be given a V8, I was going to be given a house but because I am from a certain tribe, because things work in South Sudan according to your tribe.”

He adds: “When Bashir (former Sudanese president) came the last time to South Sudan, my songs were also being played.”

However, DJ Cent could not substantiate his claims.

The disgruntled music legend further said he believes in himself and his ambition is to transform South Sudan music.

“I believe in myself, I am going to do my best to open the way for the next generation. I need them to enjoy more than I do.”

“I first need to build myself to reach to some level, where I can be able to do my best for somebody. Right now, I cannot announce to people I can sign you yet I can not do

DJ Cent, sometimes referred to as Mr. No Rest or Global Boy – won multiple South Sudan music awards including Artist of the Year in 2017, Best Song of the Year for Num Bet Mara in 2018, as well as KisiraMaKudura in 2019.

In January 2023, DJ Cent declared himself the biggest brand in the country and likened himself to Nigeria’s Wizkid, who has won several Grammys.

DJ Cent then blasted music promoters in the country for allegedly exploiting musicians, saying many promoters undercharge singers who have no choice but to accept the little offer.
