Authorities in Lakes State say that two members of the state legislative assembly who were arrested on Friday have been charged with incitement.

Marik Nanga representing Rumbek North County and Makur Buoch representing Rumbek East County were taken for questioning on Friday.

The arrests follow the fighting between youth and the organized forces in Rumbek North County on Friday.

The state’s Minister of Information, Dhieu Wol, says the lawmakers had refused to campaign for a disarmament program in their constituencies.

“So, he was told to go and talk to his people but he declined to go, he was charged of incitement,” Mr Wol said.

He said disarmament was one of the main resolutions of a peace conference held in the state in July this year.

Mr Dhieu said the state government is implementing the resolutions of the peace conference, including disarmament, to reduce cattle raiding and revenge killings in the state.

There have been rampant killings in Lakes State in recent months.
