The United Nations Mission in South Sudan says a contingent of 266 additional peacekeepers has arrived in South Sudan.
UNMISS says in a press release that the troops include 10 women, two of whom are doctors, and three nurses.
The mission says they will be deployed in Juba at the UNMISS protection sites. The arrival of extra battalions is expected in the coming weeks.
The current deployment is in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution which reinforced UNMISS military and police components by an additional 5,500 troops and 423 police.
As a result of the latest deployment, there are now 12,500 peacekeepers in South Sudan and 1,323 police.
The Security Council also encouraged what it calls “inter-mission cooperation” for troops and assets to be transferred from other UN missions to UNMISS.
