The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Kristian Jensen has revealed today a new strategy for her country’s continued engagement in South Sudan beyond 2018.

Denmark’s efforts from 2016-2018 are expected to cost 100 million kroner, equivalent to $15 million.

The strategy focuses on encouraging peace, security and better living conditions for millions South Sudanese who have been affected by the conflict.

The strategy includes development co-operation, humanitarian support and sending of civilian and military personnel to South Sudan as part of the United Nation’s ongoing peacekeeping mission in the country.

“She takes strong position against what she calls—‘the many horrible’ acts and human rights violations that the civilian population in South Sudan has endured,” Jensen said.

She also said Danish government is working on improving the living conditions of so many South Sudanese refugees in the neighboring countries so that they can return home.

Humanitarian agencies estimate that over two million people have been internally displaced and more than 700,000 people have fled to the neighboring countries for safety following the outbreak of the conflict in December 2013.
